The Vishal Junnar family was founded on the holy day of Gudi Padwa in April 1978, out of a sense of social commitment, by the youth of Junnar, who had come to Mumbai in Junnar taluka to earn a living, to free themselves from the debts of their birthplace. They started their social work by establishing the Vishal Junnar Co-operative Society. During the eight-month period from April 1978 to December 1978, the Board raised funds through various initiatives such as distributing essential household items to the members at cheap rates, on a "no profit no loss" basis, distributing notebooks and books to the children of the members, and selling crackers and snacks at cheap rates on important festivals like Diwali. Later, by collecting three nominal membership subscriptions of Rs. 6 each from the members, a share capital of Rs. 132,500 was collected and a drama program of 'Phula Sugandha Maticha' or 'Phula' was held in the open theatre in Rani Bagh through the participation of 550 members. The inauguration ceremony of Vishal Junnar Sahakari patpehi ltd was held in the presence of the then Minister of State for Home Affairs, Hon. Bhai Vaidya and other dignitaries and the first flower of the family was born.
